PRESS RELEASE
Montreal, April 9, 2025 –

In response to comments by Prime Minister François Legault, who raised in the House the possibility of an exemption to allow 2,000 temporary foreign workers to remain in the regions, Karl Blackburn noted the government's complete improvisation in a matter of prime importance for access to labor in all regions.

"The Legault government wants us to believe that temporary foreign workers are a problem. The truth is, they are part of the solution. Without them, our economy declines and our regions lose their momentum. On the one hand, the CAQ promises to revitalize the regions. On the other, it cuts off access to the workforce that sustains them. This inconsistency harms our social cohesion, our economy, and our collective credibility," notes the Quebec Liberal Party leadership candidate.

Drawing on his experience with the Quebec Employers Council, Karl Blackburn advocates for an approach that will not penalize certain sectors or regions to the detriment of others and that recognizes the strategic importance of economic immigration in ensuring regional development.

“What we need now is leadership. Not last-minute adjustments. Not vague announcements. Real leadership capable of listening to the regions, respecting workers, and giving businesses the means to build.”

Karl Blackburn continues his regional tour this week in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, where he will meet with employers who have been directly affected by the new rules concerning temporary foreign workers.
